Whitby - In Living Memory
This site is aimed at giving younger viewers an insight into how Whitby has changed in the last 30 years or so.
From 1990-91 when the whole town centre was changed for good, with the addition of a supermarket, to the major change to the
railway station, it is all in here. If anyone thinks there is something worth including that I have missed, you can drop me an email.
All photographs contained within belong to me, Graham Prior or my Granddad, the late George Keat Purvis, who also, like me,
took photos of changes in Whitby as a hobby. Hover over a thumbnail image to see a brief description of the photo,
including the date taken where available. If 'GK' appears before the description, the photo was taken by George Keat Purvis.
Most of the written content has been researched from copies of Whitby Gazettes by me.

Thank you to my late Grandad, George Keat Purvis for the photos that I inherited from
him that has allowed me to do this in such detail
